Can you foster a pet that needs TLC in a home environment? We have a special need for a little dog named Benji. He is a little over a year old and is a terrier mix. He is very shy and timid and needs the extra love, socialization and attention he could receive in a good foster home. Ideally it would be a home without small children. It could even be a "foster home to adopt" situation. If anyone could open their heart to help this little guy, please contact me! We still need to find a loving foster home for 2 cute small fuzzy puppies. We really need your help!!! Contact: Sheila Cloud Work 322-4140 ext 6420 home 437-5714 cell 443-0314

ATTENTION: Urge North Carolina's representatives to support the tax deduction for pet care expenses The HAPPY bill, or Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (HAPPY) Act H.R. 3501 will allow pet owners to deduct pet care expenditures up to $3500 per year. This could come as a great boon to many pet families who suffer under great burdens keeping their pets healthy. Many who have pets in their families have discovered the total costs of vet bills, and when that pet gets sick it can become extremely difficult to carry on in this economy. U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) introduced the bill this past July 31st, 2009. Who knows, maybe pet families will see some ease of financial needs
ATTENTION Your pet or any homeless or lost animal that you find cannot be delivered directly to the Friends For Animals Adoption Center on Kirksey Dr. All incoming animals must go to Animal Control first ( the dog pound below FFA). Friends For Animals goes to Animal Control and saves as many animals as space will allow at the adoption center...which is limited . All adoptions must go through Friends For Animals. Maybe one day no more adoptable pets will have to die...maybe one day we can save them all...maybe... one day.
Dog Licenses available at Animal Control on Kirksey Drive below Friends For Animals Adoption Center / Shelter. $4 and proof of rabies vaccination (the number) is the only thing required. Annual pet tax: (pay to Sheriff's Dept / Animal Control) $10 for fertile pet and $4 for spayed or neutered. Five or more dogs in a kennel (confined in an enclosure) are $5 each for the first five ($25) and $1 each additional.

Don't forget to stop by Animal Control below us on Kirksey Drive to check out the pets on death row. These pets are euthanized if not claimed or rescued. If you see one you want to adopt, Friends For Animals can rescue the pet for you so that you can adopt it. It hurts us terribly that approximately fifteen to twenty five animals are euthanized daily at the Animal Control shelter due to too many homeless animals and not enough room to save them all. Donated by the Bush Foundation Transports animals from the Burke County Animal Control building to the Adoption Center where they are examined by a veterinarian, neutered and given needed vaccinations. It also takes animals to Petsmart at least 4 days a month for adoptions. *Board of Directors meet the 4th Wednesday of each month @ 6pm at the adoption center on Kirksey Dr.. Except when posted otherwise, meetings are open to the public.
The Adoption Center management work closely with city and county to end cruelty to animals. A unique and effective partnership exists between FFA and Burke County Law Enforcement. Typically, humane societies and law enforcement work in opposition to each other; here there is mutual support and team work.
