Doggy RIP: Cesar Millan's Pit Bull Daddy passes away

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 12:26 PM PST

Daddy, Cesar Millan's beloved pet died peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 16. Daddy was a key fixture in the National Geographic Channel television series Dog Whisperer. He assisted Millan with his toughest cases, interacting with and calming the most unmanageable dogs with his natural balanced energy. Daddy helped shape the behavior of entire generations of dogs by showing them the way to balance. Daddy, often referred to as America's pit bull ambassador because of his gentle disposition and

I AM DOG BLESSED

I am a dog person

Dog hair is my main accessory

Chew marks adorn my   shoes and purses

Tongue residue decorates all vehicle windows

I care more about a walk with my dog than my appearance

The bottom of my shoes probably have poop on them, my jeans may be ripped from a past rescue, my shirt harbors the glorious smells that drive all canines wild  ( other canines).

My hair, its there, held in place by strategically placed slobber.

I am more comfortable sitting on a concrete floor with a room full of dogs then the grandest 5 star resorts best suite.

 I am also  thrilled with  sitting down and sharing a hotdog with my furbaby than I am going to any restaurant!

Just smile, when you need a pen and you have to wait for me to pull out of my purse...a dog leash, extra collar, ziploc of treats, and any pet paraphernalia I can fit in there.

I am an animal person, that does not mean I do not like you or others of the human race it just means , I don't get you. There is a gap between your understanding of life and mine, unless you are an animal person too. Then even though we understand each other, we also understand our social skills may be limited to sit, stay, speak, walk, nap, leave me alone with my own bone to chew. At least we don't smell each others butts!
But, I possess loyalty, love and pack instincts if you like to be part of a pack.

I AM ANIMAL BLESSED
If you come to my house you will be licked, smelled, barked at, rubbed against or better.
If you venture into the yard you may be jumped on, pecked, screeched at or even nibbled.
I make no apologies for my family. They love you and for some of you they are a step out of your comfort zone, huh?

But, it is all washable, trust me!

Hear our humble prayer, O God,
for our friends, the animals,
especially for those who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked,
underfed, and cruelly treated;
for all the wistful creatures in captivity,
that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted,
or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put to death.

We entreat for them all
Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them,
we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves,
to be true friends to animals
and so to share
the blessings of the Merciful.
Albert Schweitzer

In loving memory of Ed "MOOSE" Davis;

 September 16, 1949 to February 16, 2009

"To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ed Davis, fondly known as Moose, has touched many lives, humans and animals alike.  He began life in 1949 in Andalusia, Alabama, son of Charles Edward Davis and Mary Ann Hill.  He  had many adventures throughout the years, but but he was perhaps best known for his love of animals.  He was a founder of Burke County Friends For Animals and received much recognition for his volunteer efforts and contributions to the community.  Perhaps his most treasured accomplishments were his eternal happy romance with his wife of 32 years, Toni Davis, and his family of two sons, Clint and Austin, and two grandchildren, Alex and Nanami.  Ed Cherished all forms of life and served as the Burke County Cruelty Investigator for 12 years, protecting the lives of the animals who needed him.  He kept a special place in his heart for his furry friends, especially Lucky and Gidget.

The family wishes to express our deep appreciation for your expressions of concern and kindness in thought and deed.

In Fond and Loving Memory of
Mary Bush
and
Liz Moore
***********************
These two ladies contributed so much to the present success
of the No-kill Shelter  in Burke County.

Mary Bush

Without the inspiration and support of Mary Bush
this project would still be a dream.

Liz Moore

Liz Moore was the President of the BCFFA during the planning
and building stages of the Shelter. She worked tirelessly to
contribute to the welfare of the pets in Burke County.

OUR FOUNDERS

In 1997, six individuals (Jan Billings, Mary Bush, Ed and Toni Davis, Liz Moore and June Sledge) who were as determined as they were creative, saw the potential of selecting animals from Animal Control to keep them from being euthanized and to find them homes.

On their own, they pursued this goal unstintingly over 24 hour days for several years.  It was threefold:  save the animals, treat them humanely, educate the public.  Their legacy continues to guide Friends For Animals though, reluctantly, we bid farewell to Mary Bush and Liz More as they departed for the Rainbow Bridge. Their purity of purpose, novel solutions to problems and hard work establish a foundation for the "Friends For Animals"  organization that thrives today.

So now here we are, all confused and alone
in a shelter with others who long for a home.

The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
with so many to care for, they can’t stay to chat.

They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer…
we know that they wonder how long we’ll be here.

We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads
of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.

Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears –
our friends filled with emptiness, worry, and fear.

If you can’t adopt us and there’s no room at the inn –
could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?

We count on your kindness each day of the year –
can you give more than hope to everyone here?

Please make a donation to pay for the heat…
and help get us something special to eat.

The shelter that cares for us wants us to live,
and more of us will, if more people will give.
