We need to present Davie's Law (abolish the cruel gas chamber as a means to destroy unwanted animals) again in 2010! The North Carolina Coalition for Humane Euthanasia (video of gas chamber) is dedicated to ending the cruel killing of animals in our state's shelters. We believe that taxpayers should not pay the bill for animal suffering. More than 20 NC county shelters are still using gas chambers and other inhumane methods to destroy unwanted animals. Innocent pets suffer in their last moments, gasping for breath and wailing until they finally succomb to poisonous carbon monoxide. You pay the bill, and you have the right to ask for change. Shortly after Sheriff McDevitt took office, Friends For Animals Humane Society of Burke County, NC and The Animal Control staff destroyed the gas chamber !
Ask a question, answer a thread or start your own topic. New law means shelter will have to keep animals longerHumane society responds to complaints, takes action Everyone involved with Burke County Friends for Animals seems to want what's best for the animals. Burke County Sheriff John McDevitt said Burke County Friends for Animals is a great support for the county animal control. Of those, 1,205 were adopted through Burke County Friends for Animals. Humane Society Of Catawba County offers low cost Spay/Neuter services through our SNIP Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic located at 3224 20th Ave. SE, Hickory. Call 828-464-2FIX (2349) for information. Come to the shelter to schedule your appointment. There are thousands and thousands of companion animals that end up being euthanized in county shelters every year due to pet over-population. By spaying/neutering, you can help reduce the number of unwanted pets. Your pet will also be less at risk for health problems when you have them spayed and neutered. It really is important, for many reasons! (Please feel free to call us or your veterinarian for more information).
For more information, you can email the SNIP Clinic administrator: snip@catawbahumane.org
How It Works:
1. You will need to fill out a carbon copy registration form for each pet you wish to have spayed/neutered. This form is only available at HSCC during business hours Tuesday-Friday 12-5:30 p.m. or Saturday 12-4 p.m.
2. You must pre-pay (cash or major credit card only) in order to reserve your pets' appointment. Space is limited. The SNIP clinic no longer accepts checks as a form of payment.
Pricing: $69 (male dogs/cats) $79 (male dogs over 80 lbs) $69 (non-pregnant female dogs under 80 lbs) $69 (non-pregnant female cats) $75 (pregnant cats) $80 (pregnant dogs & female dogs over 80 lbs) $95 (females who are pregnant AND over 80lbs)
*If you do not have a current Rabies Certificate for your pet, you will be required to have a Rabies Vaccine for an additional $8. If you want your pet to receive a 3 year rabies vaccine we must see the certificate and make sure it hasn't expired. 3 year rabies vaccines are also $8.
* Multiple cats may come in the same carrier when you bring them in but they MUST leave in separate carriers going home. If you don't have enough carriers you can purchase cardboard carriers from us for an additional $7 each.

 | When It Happens:
YOU MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT!
(Please read "How it Works") Bring your pet to HSCC between 8-8:30 a.m. on your pre-scheduled surgery day. We are not able to accept pets any earlier than that. You must wait for a HSCC staff member to check-in your cat or dog. Make sure your pet has not eaten since 10 p.m. the night before.
Dogs must be on leashes, cats must be in carriers! If you don't have one you may purchase a cardboard carrier for $7 and pick it up when registering. (HSCC recommends that all cats travel in carriers when being transported...for their safety AND yours!)
Pick Up: You should be able to pick up your pet by 5 p.m. on the same day. Call 828-464-2FIX to check on your pet after 2:00 p.m.
Note: The shelter closes at 5:30 p.m. Animals may NOT be left at HSCC overnight! |
IMPORTANT!!
If you do not have a certificate for a non-expired rabies vaccine for each pet having surgery, for an additional $8, we are required to give your pet a vaccine at the time of your pets' spay/neuter surgery. You may also add additional vaccines, heart worm tests and Feline Leukemia/FIV tests for an additional fee.
Please ask a HSCC staff member about services available when you schedule your appointment. Following your pet's surgery
If there are any questions or concerns directly related to the surgery during the recovery period, please call our office during regular business hours (828) 464-8878. If there is an emergency after hours, contact your regular veterinarian or the After-Hours Veterinary Clinic (828) 328-2660.
